Having a few Beano's at a lovely Vegetarian Cafe

My day trip to Folkestone started early on a Friday morning, one of my day-offs from university that's conveniently placed just before the weekend. I need to treat myself, I thought, I've just done some long essay work and I deserve a nice, relaxing self-date.

Of course, being within the Kent county, I had to go to my favourite place in the whole world - Folkestone. This meant I could finally try out the only fully vegetarian cafe I know of, and thank goodness I did!

With a great selection of vegetarian burgers, salads and sandwiches, Beano's Vegetarian Cafe Bar serve tasty meatless meals that enlighten the pallet. From a light cannellini bean, red onion and avocado salad, to a flavoursome goat's cheese, roasted peppers, sweet chilli and rocket sandwich, Beano's is great for those who like a good meat-free meal as well as those who have yet to try the wonderful world of vegetarianism.

I was in the mood for a hearty burger, so I went for the Lentil, Nut and Quinoa Burger. Topped with a slice of Emmental cheese and caramelised onion chutney, wedged between crispy toasted ciabatta buns, it was a tasty and filling burger - great for an energy boost. The ingredient that attracted me to this burger was the caramelised onion chutney; it was very sweet against the nutty flavour of the patty, but the lavishly peppered chunky chips helped to neutralise the flavours.

One thing that really impressed me was how fresh the ingredients were. I'm not a coleslaw fan whatsoever, but Beano's coleslaw was definitely an exception! Made with fresh shredded onions and carrots, generously layered on top of a green salad, the coleslaw was refreshing and completely balanced out the salty sweetness of the burger. I think I might actually like coleslaw now - thanks Beano's!

As you would expect from a cute little independent restaurant, the interior was colourfully decorated with flowers, bunting, ceiling lights made with bottles, and brown wooden chairs.

They also serve cakes like banana fairy cakes and rhubarb cake with cinnamon frosting, as well as your good ol' tea and coffee. If that wasn't good enough, most things are available for takeaway at a cheaper price! Brilliant! A great end to a peaceful trip.

And so, after having a positive experience at Beano's Vegetarian Cafe Bar, my quest for vegetarian restaurants begins...
